I consider myself lucky to be chosen as a part of the OnlyGizmos.com team, founded by Annkur Agarwal, for two months at the end of my first year. It was a thrilling experience and beyond my expectations.
Being a part of the content developing team, I had to blog about the latest happenings in the field of technology and that was my prime job. After setting up my Google Reader, I had to go through numerous websites to see if there were some confirmed news about a release of a new phone or a new update on the existing technology and then blog about it in my own words. The website was managed by Wordpress 3.0 Content Management System (CMS). Thus creating, editing and deleting a post was hassle free. During my tenure, some noteworthy changes that came about were – release of iPhone 4 along with iOS4, Android’s Froyo (i.e. version 2.2) update rumors and multiple Indian companies launching their cell phones. I had the liberty to choose a topic amongst various technology news pieces and blog about it on the site. How can I forget the awesome and awful (Yes, both at the same time!) experience of making video reviews? Video reviews of some apps of iPad and some Indian (read Micromax) cell phones were added in the blogpost after multiple attempts of getting it right. :P
Along with blogging, I had a lot of fun time as I played around with the iPad and iPod Touch since I blogged about the latest apps hitting the appstore and Cydia(3rd party apps) for the respective devices on iphonehelp.in, another blogging website founded by Annkur. Installing new apps, trying them out was super fun. Also found some interesting wallpapers to blog about for jailbroken ‘iDevices’.
Let me introduce you to my office culture. Some of you may say that it could have been done from home, but since this was an internship program, I had to go to the office, which according to me, was the best part! Along with somewhat flexible timings, free lunch & evening snacks and air conditioned office, I had the freedom to work in my shorts too! Obviously this was my first out-of-academics adventure and I thought I’ll be going in formals everyday but that wasn’t the case. Annkur himself is a 24 year old entrepreneur from Mumbai and he never allowed me call to him ‘the boss’. One afternoon, I get a call from him saying,”Get ready, we are going to cover Ballmer’s keynote speech in an hour.” This was the most amazing and memorable surprise! The experience of hearing Steve Ballmer (CEO, Microsoft) live was exhilarating in addition to getting a media badge and a seat, reserved for media in first two rows at Taj Lands End, Bandra. [.....]
