“In the QS World University Rankings 2014, IIT Bombay was ranked as India’s top university.]t is the second-oldest institute of the Indian Institutes of Technology system. In India, among engineering colleges, it was ranked second by Outlook India in 2015.”
This summer, I worked as a project intern at FOSSEE IITB. I consider myself really fortunate to have gotten this opportunity because the experience was exemplary.
IIT had so many things to offer. Interns could select the project that interested them, and so I worked on the Scilab-Arduino project. I also worked a little with Python, and Julia which is a fairly new programming language. My part was to implement all the Digital Circuits using Scilab-Xcos-Arduino, Python-Arduino and Julia-Arduino interfaces.
There were more than 100 interns at IIT, and that made it a pool of curious minds. We interacted with students from different corners of the country and in the process learnt about them their work as well. There was a constant exchange of knowledge.I have never had a richer experience. I also got the rare opportunity to be a part of a video conference with Mr Raphaël Auphan, the current CEO of Scilab, to whom we explained our projects on Scilab.
“Scilab is an open source, cross-platform numerical computational package and a high-level, numerically oriented programming language. It can be used for signal processing, statistical analysis, image enhancement, fluid dynamics simulations, numerical optimization, and modeling, simulation of explicit and implicit dynamical systems.”
Our project mentors were very knowledgeable as well as friendly, and so was our Project head, who always pushed us to THINK and question everything we did (and also threw us a pizza party at the end of our tenure!)
The internship acquainted me with things I didn't know existed and helped me achieve things I didn't know I could.
